King Restorations

Ever since grandpa let me tinker in his shed in the school holidays I knew I was going to do this forever.

He let me be creative and never a negative word said. Fast forward to high school and when I walked through the woodwork classroom I felt at home.  Not being book smart, but excelling at tech subjects, the school was encouraging to help me transition to TAFE.  I knew it had to be wood related. So, I enrolled in a full time cabinet making course at 15.

It soon became apparent that the detail work and finishing was my passion. Seeing the grain “pop” when that first coat of finish was applied, how satisfying.

At 16, I started an apprenticeship at a finishing company and did my studies at Marlston TAFE. We were able to restore a train carriage and some pieces we bought from home. This was it, restoration was for me!

I’ve had many jobs in the industry, but the skills gained by working with Chris Sorensen at The Adelaide Furniture Doctor over the years has been amazing.  Our shared passion, and experiences on and off for the past 20+ years has got me where I am today.  I’ve also been able to work alongside Richard from Wicker Works, where he taught me how to replace sheet cane.

I’m so fortunate to have had these skills passed to me.

I still contract for Chris when I’m needed. Having a laugh and still learning.
